History:

Lejac Enterprises has been in business since 1998. I was at a career change and had always been interested in furniture restoration and wood working but had never thought of it as a career. With the backing of my family I entered into an internship with a gentleman who was in his late seventies and had been a woodworker his entire life, the last part specifically in furniture repair and restoration. It wasn't until he felt comfortable with my skills that I started my business. He had trained many before but told me that he had only recommended a few should go into business.

I purposely keep the business as a small shop, working on every piece as if it was my own. To assure quality to my customers, every piece that leaves the shop is backed by a satisfaction guarantee for workmanship and product quality. Originally we started our business in Newburyport, MA where we enjoyed servicing the area for over 10 years. Just under 2 years ago we moved to Easton, NH where we presently have our shop. Because of all our customers in the North Shore of MA we still service the area on a regular basis.

Lejac is a small custom repair and restoration shop. We will fix a single chair or restore a formal dining room set. We treat every piece as if it was our own. Complete customer satisfaction is our goal which we back up with a service and product guarantee on all our work.

It is important to us to use era appropriate material when fixing, refinishing, or especially when restoring. If a chair needs a repair and hyde glue was utilized when the chair was originally made then we use hyde glue to repair it. If the chair had shellac as its finish, we will use shellac to refinish it. Additionally we carry different grades/types of shellac that can be used to further maintain era specific finish. Other finishes that we utilize, include but are not limited to; lacquer, pre-cat lacquer, varnish, and wiping finishes such as tung oil and wiping polyurethanes. The appropriate finish can either be dictated by matching the original finish or matching the requirements requested of the finish by the piece's owner. Most of the colorants (stains) we use are dyes that provide a crisp, clear and bright color. This differs from the particulate stains that are a mixture of powders in a solvent base, such as most of the stains you buy in your hardware store. If applied to heavily they can create an opaque effect and actually start to cover the natural characteristics of the wood. The dyes do not have this issue since they have no powders. All our stripping is done by hand; tank stripping can be detrimental to glue joints and veneers. We do not provide architectural stripping services for which tank stripping is appropriate. Lejac has the ability to reproduce missing pieces whether through construction, lathe work or both and can color match so the piece harmonizes with its surroundings so it does not look like it has been replaced.

In addition to furniture repair, refinishing and restoration, Lejac offers caning services. We provide spine style caning and hand weaved caning in all sizes, as well as hand weaved rush and hand weaved Danish cord seating. We also offer upholstery services for cushions, chair seats and other small items.

Privately we have started building some custom furniture pieces and hope to expand the business to include the conception and creation of one-of-a-kind pieces.
