Artisan Restorations was established in 1987. With a love for period furniture and objects, William Balsiger began at an early age, what has become a life-long education. While in college he apprenticed with a fine restorer and touch-up artist, unknowingly turning an avocation into a vocation. Having mastered the craft of European Touch-up Artistry, his work has taken him all over the country for hundreds of current commercial accounts, thousands of private customers and most notably as Touch-up Artist for the Smithsonian Museum on the Ten Thousand Springs Pavillion at the Lakeview Museum in Peoria, Illinois.

Markets we service are: the insurance industry; the transit industry; the building industry; hotels; restaurants; office buildings; furniture manufacturers; furniture factories; cabinet shops; the piano industry; design studios; institutions including museums, hospitals, universities, courthouses, and the Governor's mansion in Wisconsin. We also have an extensive private clientele and specialize in providing a vast array of onsite services.
Artisan Restoration specializes in onsite Conservation, Repair, Classical European and American styles of Touch-up Artistry. We adhere to ethics as is outlined by the America Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works. We regularly examine, photograph, document, outline and treat objects in an array of mediums, include not only wood, but also fibers and fabrics, wall art, ceramics, stone and metals. Never detracting from the value of anything we service. Our treatments maintain an objects value thereby, ensuring its future appreciation. Our skill sets and services are as broad as our markets and mediums.
Through various microscopy techniques we are able to determine precisely what materials or coatings we are examining. The exact products can be obtained, and these compound formulations then applied onsite. As opposed to a pre-mixed "off the shelf" French finish, our product is entirely non- toxic, has virtually no foul smell and is service ready within twenty-four to forty-eight hours. We at Artisan Restorations want emphasize that the pieces we service are rarely, if ever, removed from your primacies.
Occasionally, an object will require a more invasive type of structural repair. When it is determined required, a piece can be brought into our studio. If so, our turn-around times are the best in the industry. We have a 23 year track record to support this claim and were voted an Angies list "Super Service Center of the Year" for two consecutive years, which as we were informed was a national first within the restoration industry.
