We began as Hughes Upholstery in 1970's back in Thomasville, N.C. My parents, Gerald and Connie Hughes relocated us to Woodbridge, Virginia where my father continued the business. (I was still in High School). My parents relocated the business the last time to Stafford, Virginia in 1980, and as Stafford grew so did Hughes Upholstery. We lost my dad to a heart attack in 1991, and the following year my mom to lung cancer. That's where I come in. I am Judith May, Judy for short. I took over the family business in 1992 with Johnathan Nguyen a master in the field of custom upholstery and design.

We continued to run the business as Hughes Upholstery until the spring of 1995 when we decided to open the fabric store to go hand in hand with our upholstery services, then J&J Upholstery and Drapery Fabric, Inc. was born and has grown to be one of the largest upholstery shops in our area.

The rest is kind of history, we are still here, servicing the entire Northern Virginia area making friends along the way.

Our retail fabric store offering discounted upholstery and drapery fabrics, trims and leather works together to make our upholstery service a truly full service upholstery shop. So much of the total job these days is made up of high fabric prices. We have a huge inventory discounted to make any job more reasonable priced. Of course, like any upholstery shop we also have order fabrics available as well.

Our upholstery services consist of residential and commercial, all types of furniture. Boats, camper cushions, wall upholstery and custom slipcovers.

Our custom window treatment services include cornices, soft treatments from panels to swags and any design in between, from the elaborate to the simple. We also make custom bedding, cushions and pillows.

We also have available COM furniture programs to special order that needed pieces of furniture. Still crafted in North Carolina, Dexter furniture is made from hard woods with eight way hand tied springs.
